LETTER
FROM THE EDITOR
November,
a sombre month of cold, rain, and inventory. After
an introductory sentence like that, you may think
that I’m in a depressive state of mind.
On the contrary! With all the workload that we
now have, the whole team is getting anxiously
prepared for the upcoming year. We hope that you
will feel our team thriving for Bleutec’s
dependability and success.
After a few months of shipping/receiving
difficulties of certain products, we’ll
take what’s left of 2005 to try to catch
up on some backlogs, and plan ahead for 2006.
We will soon have our new
catalogue that will showcase our new Blickle casters
and wheels. Also, we are presently doing major
changes on our Web site, so make sure that you
visit www.bleutec.com to see all the latest updates.
As you can see, even in
the most sombre of months, Bleutec’s dynamism
is at work with ways to improve service, products,
and communication with our customers.
Thank you for your
continued trust.
Signed,
Luc Turcotte

Have you heard about the VERY frequent
flier?
While
sitting in a waiting room last week, I picked
up a magazine and read an article that caught
my eye, so I thought that I’d recap the
story and write about it for this edition of
the leader.com.
Have you heard about Canada’s
very frequent flier? Yes, we have 30-year-old
Marc Tacchi from Vancouver who is trying to
rack up 1,000,000 frequent flier points with
Air Canada, and all within 2 months!
Mr. Tacchi, a pilot for
an air cargo company, bought Air Canada’s
North America Unlimited Pass, which costs $3,499.00
per month, and allows unlimited travel to more
than 100 destinations in North America. Since
October 1st, he’s been on more than 80
flights, and has already accumulated over
460,000 points.
He has Air Canada Super Elite status, which
gives him 2.75 miles for every mile he flies,
therefore when he logs 7,500 miles a day, he
really earns more than 20,000 points. That’s
not too bad for someone who doesn’t even
have to take time off of work to rack up the
points. Mr.Tacchi works 36 hours a week, which
is basically a cargo flight once a week to Asia
or Europe. So the rest of the week, he’s
busy flying as a passenger.
During
the day, he takes short trip flights between
Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo, and in the
evening, he takes red-eyes to Toronto or Montreal.
Then it’s back to Vancouver in the morning.
With
another month to go, he’ll definitely
get his 1,000,000 points, which will give him
10 round-trip executive class trips to Australia!
Some people just have a knack to figure things
out, don’t they?
If
you want to read more about Canada’s frequent
flier, you can log on to The Great Canadian
Mileage Run 2005 at www.gcmr2005.blogspot.com.
You can also e-mail him from the Web site, just
like I did, and he’ll reply in between
flights!

TRY
HARD
Try
Hard Industrial Supply, one of
our largest distributors in Ontario,
began their operations in the
spring of 1979.
Company
founder, Frank Ferko, chose the
name “Try Hard”, which
represents the underlying philosophy
that has since brought the company
to prominence within a very competitive
marketplace. Today, Mr. Ferko
is still actively involved in
the growth of the business, but
has transferred much of the day-to-day
management to his two sons, John
and Dario.

Located
on Courtneypark Drive in Mississauga,
Try Hard sells a wide variety
of industrial tools and equipment:
abrasives; various cleaners, greases,
and adhesives; tool sets and cutters;
range of hand tools from tape
measures to torque wrenches; power
and precision tools; safety products
and accessories; and finally maintenance
products such as Bleutec casters.
Do
not hesitate to contact them for
any of your industrial needs!

Inventory
We
are once again at the time of year where we
start thinking “inventory”. Just
as it is for some of you, this word is not
a particularly fun word for us, but according
to our accountants, it is a necessary evil.
For
logistics purposes, as well as to ease the
product transition of Blickle and Guitel casters,
we will be doing our inventory at the end
of the month of November. Therefore, on the
1st and 2nd of December, we will be busy counting
all the wheels, rigs, and casters on hand.
We hope that you will bear with us during
these 2 days.
Also,
keep an eye open for the next edition of the
Leader as we will probably have some discontinued
Guitel casters at a low low price!

WHEEL HARDNESS
With
so many different wheel materials available
in our industry, it can be challenging to find
the right wheel for any given application. In
addition to the wheel’s material, diameter,
weight capacity and bearing type, here’s
a characteristic that is often overlooked when
choosing a wheel : the wheel’s durometer
or hardness.
The
wheel’s durometer affects how a wheel
performs in terms of shock absorption, traction,
durability and rollability. Soft wheels are
quiet, they absorb vibrations and shocks, and
outperform any hard wheel on rough surfaces.
Also note that generally
speaking, a wheel’s hardness is directly
proportional to its resistance to abrasion (there
are some exceptions to this rule but that would
be the subject of another article) . Therefore,
in most cases, hard wheels have better abrasion
resistance properties than soft wheels. They
also offer better mobility, rollability and
weight capacity. On the other hand, a harder
wheel’s ability to absorb shock and overcome
obstacles is questionable. Harder wheels can
also be noisy.
In order to give you a
better sense of what is considered hard and
soft wheels, the following table shows common
(almost) everyday items for you to compare.
Hardness of non-metal
materials is measured with the Shore scales.
The following link will give you much more information
about the Shore (durometer) scales :
http://www.matweb.com/reference/shore-hardness.asp

You can now see as an
example that our SofthaneTM polyurethane wheel
with a 75 Shore A durometer is softer than our
GSPO cast nylon wheel which is a 83 Shore D.
Don’t hesitate
to use this chart and to call us for any details
about our wheels and their hardness or other
properties.
